Empanadas al Horno

Empanadas are extremely popular here in Chile but a lot different than the image that comes to my mind when someone says empanada. Chilean empanadas are much bigger, can contain a large variety of stuffings, and are oven made instead of fried. A very common one is “Pino” which is a mixture of grounded beef, onions, and eggs; unfortunately I’m not a fan of onions so I cannot give my opinion on that. Another common one which also happens to be my favorite thus far is “napolitano”, these are stuffed with tomatoes, ham and cheese and have Oregon sprinkled on top, interestingly enough they taste like a slice of pizza at every bite. I’ll definitely need to learn how to make these empanadas once I’m back in the city.
