Margay

Costa Ricans often times try capturing wild cats when they are young to keep them as pets. However, once they realize that they’re meant to be in the wild and so can be quite destructive within a home and that they are going to continue to grow they get rid of them.

Luckily, wild cats have great instincts and so can be cared for to be placed back in the wild. Proyecto Asis doesn’t usually keep wild cats for long because they aren’t experts with the animal but during my time there I was able to see two (one arrived the same day I did). When someone at Proyecto Asis is able to they usually take cats like the Margays to another clinic a few hours away that focuses heavily on their care and release.
