Humming birds are truly amazing birds
This Keel-billed Toucan had acid poured on it’s beak – luckily the beak has began to grow back and at this point in time is looking much better.
Update from Proyecto Asis: The toucan can now pick up food and feed itself, great progress

It is illegal to own a parrot as a pet in Costa Rica – unfortunately, many people still do and can often mistreat and then try to get rid of them.
Proyecto Asis takes in these mistreated parrots and slowly nurses them back to health. They go through several stages as they prepare them for release which includes different diets and progressively being placed with more parrots in larger cages. This specific one is in the final stage before being released – and was letting me know he was ready to be free.
Another thing that was difficult for me was seeing mistreated macaws. The first time we saw one was at the California Lighthouse – there was a man with a truck selling ice cream and the macaw was sitting on the table. Continue reading “Mistreated Macaws”
Ugh what beautiful colors
So much easier to closer to birds in city areas where they’re used to people
